Our DIY rooftop makeover is finally complete! We transformed the roof deck of our Chicago condo from a peeling, rotting outdoor space into a functional outdoor living area with a refinished deck, new pergola, outdoor dining area, seating area, and raised garden beds.

This was our first major project in our new Chicago condo, and the rooftop definitely needed some attention. We started by completely refinishing the existing deck: sanding off all of the old finish, replacing the rotting boards, and applying Woodluxe oil-based stain.

Once the deck and pergola were finished, we created an outdoor seating area underneath the pergola and added a separate dining area. We also added two Vego Garden raised garden beds on wheels with a large planter for flowers. To finish things off, we replaced our old storm door and upgraded our exterior lighting.

Welcome to the first episode of City Home Diaries!

After moving from our suburban fixer-upper to a condo in Chicago, we're embracing a new chapter, one that's all about creating a home while exploring the city we love.
